Markel International, the specialty property and casualty insurer, has announced the launch of their graduate trainee scheme, Markel University, set to provide graduates with a comprehensive introduction to the insurance industry and the Markel culture.
Gerry Albanese, President and Chief Operating Officer of Markel said: “This opportunity will give graduates a broad exposure to our business operations and the insurance industry. We are keen to hire the best graduates to help us grow and develop our business but we realise that it’s often hard for people straight out of university to make the right decisions about their careers. A year at Markel University will give graduates a good knowledge of the insurance industry and the way that Markel operates.”
Already 30 graduates have been invited to attend assessment days, and over 370 have looked at the details of Markel University on the website www.markelintl.com. Advertising has been targeted at the graduate population, and specific universities around the country. Whilst not rejecting applicants on degree discipline, Markel is keen to attract a diverse selection of graduates who show potential and demonstrate an interest in the insurance business.
Ron Northedge, Director of Human Resources at Markel said; “The quality of graduates who have applied to Markel University have been high. The programme will commence in October and will comprise rotations within the Company covering the key insurance disciplines. At the end of the programme, we are looking forward to offering places to the graduates within Markel International."
