Markel doubles workforce in Leeds and opens new West End office

Markel (UK) Limited, the fast growing regional insurance arm of Markel International, has more than doubled its specialist workforce over the last two years and has moved to new larger office space in the city’s up and coming West End to accommodate the increased staff numbers.

The office was opened today by Tony Markel, President and Chief Operating Officer of Markel Corporation, the US holding Company.  The opening ceremony was followed by a celebratory reception for over 60 leading insurance brokers from across the region.

Markel has had offices in the central business district of Leeds for over 12 years, most recently in Russell Street.  The new state-of-the-art office and the increase in headcount will allow Markel to provide a superior service to its supporting brokers in the NorthEast as well as providing centralised support for its other regional underwriting offices across the UK.  In addition to the underwriters who will be based at the offices, an enlarged team of claims, administration and accounting employees will also be retained there.

Steve Carroll, Managing Director, Markel (UK) Limited, who is based in Leeds commented:
“The move to the new upcoming West End of Leeds shows that we take our business seriously and the new larger offices represent our commitment to growth.  We see the move as the next stage in our development and over the coming months we seek to further expand our business with the introduction of new products.

Markel’s success, driven by its commitment to underwriting profitability, is good news for Leeds and the Leeds business community.”
