Gerry Albanese has taken up the position of President and Chief Operating Officer and Richie Whitt the position of Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer at Markel International, the London based international arm of Markel Corporation.
In the UK, Markel International operates in the London Company Market through Markel International Insurance Company and at Lloyd’s through Markel Syndicate 3000.
Gerry Albanese said: “Great opportunities exist for our London business. The recent AM Best rating developments and the Syndicate 3000 performance forecasts show that the team we are leading in London successfully shares Markel’s commitment to underwriting profitability. This is a powerful base for a business which has the ability to write business in either our insurance company or our Lloyd’s Syndicate, while offering clients excellent levels of security.
“We believe the opportunities exist to market products developed in the UK to the US and vice versa. Our London aviation division, for example, has a products liability coverage which we are planning to offer in the US through Markel’s US distribution channels by the end of this year.”
Richie Whitt added: “Geographically we see opportunities to develop further our regional retail business and we are also keen to look at and develop our activities in continental Europe.”
