Markel International, the specialty property and casualty insurer, has appointed Hugh Maltby to the new role of Operations Director. 

Hugh, who will be based in London, has more than 20 years of experience of working in the insurance industry, including 12 years working at Brit Insurance where as Operations Director and, latterly, as Group Services Director, he developed a scaleable operational structure that played a key part in Brit’s recent growth.

Responsible for IT, underwriting support, procurement and premises, Hugh will direct the strategic development of these core operational activities. He will also coordinate non-underwriting operational projects in the underwriting divisions.

Prior to joining Brit Insurance, Hugh worked as an underwriter in syndicate management positions at Ockham Worldwide and Sturge Non-Marine.
