Markel International Limited, the specialty property and casualty insurer, has appointed Patrick White as Class Underwriter and Head of the firm’s D&O section.
Patrick has a 20 year career in the insurance industry, the greater part of it at Markel International, with earlier positions at brokers Robert Bruce Fitzmaurice and as an underwriter on Lloyd’s Syndicate 702.
Patrick’s appointment comes as the firm is looking to broaden the scale and geographic reach of its D&O business in Europe and in the UK, where it will focus on the domestic PLCs. Patrick is a published author, having written an FT Finance report on Lloyd’s post Reconstruction and Renewal.
Patrick will report to David Jones, Joint Managing Director, Professional Liability division.
David Jones said: “Patrick has been with Markel for 14 years and his experience, technical knowledge and natural wit will enable us to develop the D&O account to a wider audience on a broader territorial basis. We are actively recruiting to support Patrick and the team in this objective.”
Patrick White commented: “There is a great opportunity to grow Markel’s D&O business both in scale and reach, within the strict underwriting disciplines for which the company is well known. I am looking forward to the challenge.”
