Applying for your first job after university can be a daunting experience. We, at Markel International, believe that it is a good idea to get a broad experience of the industry you are interested working in. The Markel University is a 12-month rotational programme aimed at graduates, providing an introduction to the insurance industry and to the Markel culture and way of doing business.

Over a 12-month period, you will be placed in different areas of the Company for varying lengths of time. Each of the departments offer diverse challenges, different areas of learning and development and various career opportunities.

2004 is the first year Markel International has offered a graduate programme. It is important that you understand our culture, as defined in the Markel Style, before applying for a position with us.

What will the Markel University give you?

Markel International is one of the leading companies in the London and regional General Insurance Market. We have established a reputation of excellence in the market for a number of reasons: the products we write; our principles and standards; and our innovative approach to resolving or managing traditional market issues.

By spending time in different areas of the business you will be able to make a much more informed decision about your future career. We will have had an opportunity to get to know you, and you will have had the opportunity to learn about the insurance industry, and more importantly, about Markel. It is on this basis you can then make your career decisions and we can discuss opportunities within the Company.

Each graduate will have a mentor within the organisation to provide support during the 12 months. They will not only be there to help you 'find your feet' during your first few weeks, but will also act as a sounding board to, for example, explain complex insurance terminology and processes, and, of course, introduce you to the local lunchtime eateries, shops and bars close to the office.
