Nick was appointed chief actuary in 2003. He has worked as an actuary in the London Market since 1997, when he joined the Terra Nova Group, which was acquired by Markel in 2000. At Markel International he has built an actuarial team with responsibility for reserving, pricing and capital modelling. Nick also oversees the teams responsible for catastrophe management and information management. 
 

Steve is responsible for managing Markel's global retail business. He has more than 30 years' insurance experience with companies such as Towry Law and the American International Group. Steve managed the UK retail operations of Terra Nova for 10 years, becoming managing director of Markel UK when it was formed in 2000 after the acquisition of Terra Nova. 

Ian is a chartered accountant who has worked in retail banking and insurance for over 35 years.  He joined Markel International as chief operating officer in 2002 and then became a non-executive director and later chairman. Aside from Markel, Ian is a senior advisor to the Financial Services Authority and honorary treasurer of Barnardos.

Ralph has more than 30 years' international experience in general insurance. He spent over six years with the Euler Group, where his positions included chairman of the business development group at Euler Hermes and chief executive of Euler Hermes International. Ralph set up his own consultancy firm, Eurinsure, in 2004.
