Markel International’s office at Lee Gardens opened on 1 January 2011. It is the latest addition to the company’s growing Asia Pacific network, with Singapore as the regional hub. As well as Hong Kong, Markel operates through Labuan, in Malaysia, where it was granted a licence by the Labuan Financial Authority in 2010.
Business is written via the Lloyd’s Asia trading platform, using Markel’s wholly-owned Syndicate 3000, and the Hong Kong office focuses on specialist insurance lines for the territory’s financial community.
Beginning with a strong liability offering, Markel will expand into related areas and introduce other products from the company’s wide portfolio. The rising local demand for specialist knowledge and products fits perfectly with Markel’s expertise as a niche insurer.
